Large-scale project such as this stadium will change the view of the city and the traffic of people. And, this mutation of the city may provoke people to think about what we have done and how we will live with the result. On the other hand, stadium is a unique structure. It is very large while people are mostly staying exterior sharing the enjoyment. We think it is a good opportunity to build a structure that provokes the following idea. We are building a sort of new relationship with nature today. Efforts have been made to damage less to nature through our activities so far in many areas. We need (are threatened) to be more serious to build a truly sustainable relationship with nature in the construction business as well. Our scheme shall function as a catalyst of the thinking about the issue. The combination of sharing and ambiguity is the central idea of this design. The new arbor is a sort of blend of new stadium and nature in its shape, patterns and function. This is not a self-assertive independent object. This is rather a device to create a sort of chemical reaction through its subtle but definite presence in a fresh environment. We tend to treat nature as a subject (just like recognition of nature as something outside of a house) though we are definitely a part of it. The purpose of scheme is to build a structure that makes our notion about in and out more ambiguous. In other words, what we do to nature is equal to what we do to ourselves. |
